The Tale of Athens

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Athens... But where do we begin?
Athens is one of the oldest cities in all of Europe and is said to have been inhabited for over 3,000 years.
The Greek capital also plays a major role in the whole of Western civilization, as it e.g. has been a large part of the Roman Empire.

One of the things that Athens is most famous for today is that it was actually here where the first Olympic Games took place back in 1896!

Athens is also a city full of architecture.
One of the most iconic symbols of the Greek capital is the Parthenon.
Construction on the Parthenon began back in 447 BC, when the Athenian Empire peaked in power.
The Parthenon was actually built and erected as a tribute to Athena, the goddess of wisdom, whom the people of Athens saw as their protector.

Today, the Parthenon can still be seen, even though it has been several thousand years since it was built, and what a masterpiece it still is so many years after its construction!
